The Cleveland Indians face Sonny Gray and the New York Yankees in Game 1 of the ALDS tonight and I sat down with Mike Hattery to discuss the match-up.
The first order of business is dissecting Yankees starter Sonny Gray. Hattery has started up with his excellent pitcher previews and gives some insight on what to expect and who could have a big game on Thursday. The Indians will need to get to Gray early as New York’s bullpen is one of the best in baseball. The Tribe has had no problem jumping out to early leads and Hattery breaks down why he thinks the Indians are primed to have a good night.
The great Gage Will broke down Trevor Bauer’s match-up against a tough Yankees lineup and what he’ll need to do to have success. It was a questionable decision to have Bauer start Game 1 with the Tribe having two of the top pitchers in the American League at their disposal with Corey Kluber and Carlos Carrasco. Bauer needs to bring his best stuff so the Tribe doesn’t forfeit their home field advantage.
Along the lines of questionable decisions, the Tribe’s lineup for the game will be interesting. Hattery and I discussed how those moving parts fit together and why defensive acumen seems to count more for some players than others. We also discussed process over results and why Tito Francona is so hard for people who live and die by process. His magic touch is something to behold, and something difficult to understand from the outside.
We also talked about our favorite beer and maybe made a reference to Dion Waiters. If you enjoy this video and Dion Waiters references, please like, comment, and subscribe to our YouTube channel.
